Film screening of Three Seasons (newly restored to in 4K from the original 35mm camera negative and original master 4-track stereo) and a director’s talk with Tony Bui. This acclaimed film, a Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winner at the Sundance Film Festival, intertwines the tales of three narratives representing the past, present, and future of Vietnam. The long and emotional journey to restore Three Seasons isn’t just about preserving the film, but about bringing it back to life to share this timeless story of love, loss, and hope after the Vietnam War for generations to come. Following the screening, Tony Bui will share insights from his longstanding film career, especially on the role of artists and filmmakers in redefining narratives about Vietnam, its history, and people. The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Sylvia Chong, associate professor of American Studies and English at the University of Virginia, and author of The Oriental Obscene: Violence and Racial Fantasies in the Vietnam Era.
